A large number of physicists and renowned scholars of the old generation, such as Ye Qisun, Rao yutai, Wang Zhuxi, Hu Ning, Hu Jimin, Chu Shenglin, Zhu Hongyuan and so on, once worked and taught in the Department of Physics at Peking University. They have trained generations of young physicists who have now been put into key positions at teaching and research fields. For dozens of years, the quality of the teaching and training of students in the department has ranked as the first class of its kind. The textbooks written by the faculty members in the department have covered almost any course of physics taught for scientific major nationwide. The faraway leading position of the department can been seen from the list of awards that the textbooks and teaching achievements won. The Department of Physics is granted to establish Baccalaureate's, Master's, Doctorate programs and mobile stations for post-doctoral researchers. Now each year the department has an enrollment of over 100 undergraduates, 65 MS, and 25 Ph.D. students, offers 40 undergraduate courses and 25 graduate courses.
