How spiral galaxies arise and thrive over cosmic time

Spiral galaxies have undergone a significant evolution: from being a rare species in the early universe to the dominating type of galaxies today. My recent research focuses on uncovering key mechanisms that drive this evolution by using research methods that combine the physics of spiral arms and the chemistry of star formation. In this talk, I will share some of my most recent results on constraining the physical origins of spiral galaxies in the young universe. I will also introduce a new large observational program called the `MAGPI survey’ based on Australia’s access to the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
