Some places of interests within walking distance

Museum

Located to the northeast of the West Gate of the campus is the Sackler’s Archeology Museum, which showcases the ancient artifacts, some dated as early as 2000 B.C., all excavated by the professors and students in the Archeology Department of this University. The exhibition will give you an overview of the ancient Chinese history and Chinese culture.

The Unnamed Lake

This is the famous scenic spot of the campus. The lake together with the landscape around it used to be part of the famous royal garden YuanMingYuan which was burnt in 1860 in the war. The lake is called Unnamed Lake simply because it was unnamed in the beginning when it became part of the campus and no one bothered to name it properly.

Restaurants/Cafes/Bars

In Beijing, restaurants of all flavors are all over the places. Here we will briefly mention some of the restaurants that are within walking distance (for that we mean some 20 minutes walk or less) in this area.

On-campus:

Lan-Qi-Ying area: This residential area is about 15 minutes walk east of campus. Walk out of the east gate of the campus and just follow ChengFu street to the east for about 1km or so, you will see the Lan-Qi-Ying Apartments which are located on the north side of Chengfu street. On the south side of ChengFu street, you will find a bunch of restaurants, bars and cafes.

Hai-Dian Shopping Area: When you walk out of the south gate of the campus, you will find a lot of restaurants and tea-houses scattered right acrross the street. If you walk along the street to the west and turn to your left (to the south, that is) at the first traffic light, you will find the Hai-Dian Shopping Area. This shopping area is located south of the campus. However, in order to really get there, you have to cross a major city road (4th-circular-expressway). Be very careful when you do so. Do wait for green signs and even when it is green, you have to be careful. Better accompanied by a local person. There are many restaurants and department stores in this shopping area, including a McDonalds, in case that some of you miss that.
