A hydrophobic titania film converts to a superhydrophilic surface under UV exposure. There have been applied like antifogging and self-cleaning mirrors. It was considered that hydroxyl groups, which could be from dissociation adsorption of water at oxygen vacancies on surfaces, are attributed to this superhydrophilic phenomenon. But there hasn’t any report about this mechanism at the atomic/molecular level. We are planning to construct a system, which combines preparing and characterizing in UHV condition and high pressure environment and couples with surface SFG method and contact angle measurement, and to probe the water structure on the surface.
